Taking the Long View on Google+

Google+

Everything that has been written about Google+ early on has been around the feature set, what it does or it doesn’t have. What really has interested me thus far is taking a step back and looking at what has gone right and where this is going. While Google has had many missteps in the social space, which I am not going to document here, they have gotten some things right …

The Battle Rages On: iPhone vs. Android OS and App Market

The battle still rages on for the win in this seemingly endless competition between Apple and Google, AT&T and Verizon, and the iPhone and Android. Yet this is a great time for application developers and mobile advertisers to take advantage of the growing and dynamic mobile OS environments. The debate over which major features are superior for each phone is a hot topic today. PC World stated, “If you want …

Google Shopper Review

Google comes out swinging against popular shopping apps such as, Shopsavvy and Amazon with Google Shopper.  Many of you have probably already noticed Google Maps 2D barcodes on local store fronts in your neighborhood (at up to 190,000 local businesses throughout the US).  Most people have no clue what these little tags are for, but with the release of Google Shopper on Android, that will likely change.   Google Shopper …

How Many is Too Many?

The average person can quickly get bogged down by the hundreds of options for developing a social presence.  Just yesterday, Google tossed their hat in the ring with Google Buzz, this foray into social networking clearly combats the success of Twitter and Facebook. I thought John Battelle captured the essence of this confusing move best in his blog: The reality is, Facebook has won the social graph war. Google taking on …

Google Voice: One Number Rings All

As Google continues its exploration to own the life cycle of the mobile consumer.  Yesterday, they announced a web app for the iPhone and Palm WebOS devices.  I’ve been running Google Voice for months and this new web app is a tremendous upgrade and brings the experience full circle.  This is a great example of how an HTML5 app can provide fast and flexible service directly over the mobile web. …

Nexus One Commercial

Here is a great little commercial clip of the Nexus One.  As an old G1 customer, I’m glad to see some much needed improvements in the UI and sexier hardware, however there are many reports out there showing lackluster Nexus One sales in the first 10 days of release.  Perhaps its not sexy enough for the $179 price tag and with T-Mobile offering FREE smartphones it might be tough to …

Mobile Red Sea

The Connected vs. the Disconnected… We just switched phone carriers from T-Mobile (using G1 Android) to Sprint (using Palm Pre).  We were pretty pumped to see the attractive packages Sprint is offering  these days, and although I know their service can be spotty vs some of the other carriers, the price is right for the trade off.  For $99/ month, I have unlimited everything and bought my Palm Pre for $79 at …
